  1. Ron is probably qualified to determine if a tree can come down however Matt Ortner is not. He owns a landscaping business, not a tree service. At the previous council meeting both Ron and Matt determined that 4 more city trees needed to come down, one being in front of the Barto place. Ms. Barto went to ISU to hire a qualified person to come out to inspect the tree and they said it did not need to come down, so it didn't. Apparently if you have money and are willing to spend it on specialists, trees don't get cut down in Auburn. Too bad for the dozens of others that got chopped. Come take a look at Auburn, half of the trees just got a buzz cut, not a twig on them. Snyder Tree Service in Carroll had an article in the "Times Herald" a week or two ago saying a tree professional would know you can't do that. It shocks the tree and most don't make it. At least they won't be able to get money out of FEMA after those trees die. That will be at the city's expense. As far as the email being sent to the City Council and Mayor. Phone calls go unreturned. I'm still waiting for my return call on a message I left over 2 weeks ago. So, one can see how such a response can be sent. I'm happy to know the "complainers" and agree with them. I'm sure that once this is all said and done, the "high and mighty's" will not end up coming out of this so clean. By the way, the "complainers" raked over 20 yards for 8 evenings to make the cleanup day possible for those reeping the thanks.

  2. I think its really funny how the complainers didnt even show up to help on the city wide clean up day! Just shows how much they care about the town, and when we didn't have power and they came to get the trees off the power lines so we could get it back. Or it could have been even longer for us to get it back!

  3. Why would anyone work with citizens that badmouth them? When it's a volunteer situation, why would anyone put themselves in that type of situation? I wouldn't. People need to be not so quick to judge other people's intentions. If they would have shown up it would have been because they were kissing butt, if they didn't then they don't care and are selfish. A case of damned if you do and damned if you don't. They went out and raked several several yards out of the goodness of their own heart, turning away offers of cash and it was stated "they were kissing ass because everyone hated them in town". Not the case at all. People suck up to use them, then spit on them. They just figured it out and said no more. You would too and if not that's your choice to be a mat to have people wipe their feet on.

  4. To the April 20th post:

For your information and Shane Kings information the "complainers" were out at a moments notice when snow needed to be removed for the electricians to do their work. By the complainers I mean Randy Schulte, Dave Potthoff and Ted Jansen. Out of those three there was no bill submitted for their hours or for the equipment that they used except for Ted Jensen (wildcat farms $50). So to say where were they when all this was going down, Shane they WENT to their garage and put on their coveralls and got out there and worked while you and Dustin drove around in your nice warm truck!!! So to bad mouth these individuals for not doing anything on the "city wide clean up day" is ridiculous! Thank you Dave and Randy for your efforts since some people seem to only want to award those that bring attention to the minor things they do. For all those who read this the surface may seem pretty to this town but once you scratch the surface and really look what is happening there is only one phrase that comes to mind "what the hell!!" All we can do is pray for our city government to change in 2012!!!!!!!
