Tuesday January 19, 2010:
10:00PM - The national weather service predicts freezing rain starting at midnight... could lead to 1/4 inch of glaze ice. Temperatures of 20 - 30 degrees expected.
Wednesday January 20, 2010:
6:44AM - East Sac County School called off for the day.
6:32AM - Power goes out in Sac City, IA.
8:00AM - First reports of trees limbs breaking off.
9:03AM - First reports of lines down in town come in.
12:51PM - Speculation that rural customers will be out of power for 3 to 5 days.
1:07PM - First Kanye West joke comparing this storm to storm of '91 made.
3:36PM - Power begins to come back on in Sac City.
4:51PM - East Sac County announces that there will be no school on Thursday January 21, 2010.
5:15PM - Head Start teacher announces cancellation of that program for Thursday January 21, 2010
(Evening) - Report of man electrocuted in Auburn.
Thursday January 21, 2010:
9:00AM - Sac City Government begins to prepare Sac Community Center to be used as Red Cross disaster relief center.
(morning) - Sac City Government hooks up generators to water and wastewater utilities, city office.
9:15AM MidAmerican reports that there are 720 spans of line and 150 poles down. 750 sub-contractors hire to help employees repair damage.
10:30AM - First reports that power is out begin to come in.
12:36PM - Power comes back on for some houses.
1:03PM - Power goes back out. (power is off and on for everybody all day)
3:10PM - According to Sac County Sheriff's Department, 1,257 Sac City residents said to be without power.
4:00PM Red Cross shows up and sets up beds, food in Sac Community Rec Center...
4:31PM - East Sac County School cancels classes and events for Friday January 22, 2010.
5:00PM - MidAmerican reports that over 12,000 are without power over the entire region.
6:26PM - Report that Lake View has power.
7:00PM - Power comes back on for majority of Sac City. City claims MidAmerican is 90% confident that power will stay on, barring new damage.
6:45PM - National Weather Service predicts more freezing rain for Friday January 22, 2010.
(Between 7:00PM and 7:41PM) Raccoon Valley REC reports that 1,700 rural customers are without power.
7:41PM Reports that damages to Sac City are $10,000 conservatively.
8:40PM - Governor Culver declares Sac County a disaster area. Plans to visit several sites
Friday January 22, 2010.
9:44AM - Sac City loses power. There are no more reports for Friday of the power coming back on.
10:00AM - Red Cross ordered out of Sac City. Community Center still prepared to be a warming center. Volunteers organized to donate food/supplies.
1:00PM - Governor Culver Visits Sac City and finds out what Sac City's needs are from local EMA, Howard Center, County government, City government, and law enforcement.
2:00PM - Warming stations utilizing state donated generators to be set up at Lake View and Early schools.
3:00PM - Reports of water shortage in City of Schaller.
4:00PM - Reports that Law enforcement, volunteers transporting people to shelters.
Saturday January 23, 2010
58 people reported to have utilized Sac Community Center overnight.
12:00PM - Red Cross restores operations to Sac Community Center. Warming stations in Lake View and Early on "Stand Down"
