LeRoy “Gabby” Kenneth Galbraith, age 82, of Sac City, IA, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2011, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
LeRoy was born on October 3, 1928, to Robert and Florence (Demming) Galbraith in Sac County on the family farm. He attended school in a one room country school and graduated from Sac City High School in 1947. Following graduation he enlisted in the Iowa National Guard. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sac City.
On August 12, 1950, LeRoy and Ruth O’Brien were united in marriage in Lawton, Iowa. This union was blessed with four children: Terri, Connie, Debbie and Michael.
LeRoy’s life was farming, tilling the ground, planting, harvesting and raising livestock, but his true love was for his wife and family. They have many happy memories of times spent on the farm and for his wonderful sense of humor. He enjoyed bowling, fishing trips and motorcycle rides with his buddies, and in his younger years going dancing at the Cobblestone.
Survivors include his loving wife, Ruth; daughters: Terri Coats and husband Bob of Sac City, Connie Galbraith of Des Moines, and Debbie Flinn and husband David of Indianola; son Michael and wife Lori of Sac City; grandchildren: Jennifer (Rick) Soll, Jill (John) Brinkman, Justin (Carrie) Coats, Tyler Flinn, Jessica Flinn, Christina Galbraith and Gavin Galbraith; great-grandchildren: Larissa Coats, Dylan Soll, Sonnie Michelle, Maymie Brinkman and Riley Coats. Other survivors include his sisters: Ruth Ellen (Merlin) Smith of Sac City and Arlene Willadsen of Des Moines; brothers: Merle (Phyllis) Galbraith of Sioux Rapids and James (Ann) Galbraith of Sac City; and many extended family members. LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents and brother Gerald.
