FIRST LOOK: August 30, 2011 Sac County Supervisors Meeting



- Call to order.

- Approval of the minutes of the August 23, 2011 meeting.

- Approval of the agenda.

- Discussion about proposed precinct reduction from 9 to a possible 3.
-- Because city and school elections still use paper ballots, each town still has the ability to have their city and school elections in their towns.
-- If the state decrees that city and schools elections migrate over to the computerized election now used for primary and general elections, people who do not vote absentee will have to drive to the single vote site within the district, (Nemaha and Lytton to Sac, Wall Lake and Auburn to Lake View, etc.)

- The state allocates $10,000 to the Sac VA.
-- Whatever isn’t spent has to be sent back.
--- The state is very specific about on which the money can be spent, and Peg Dettmann appeared before the board to have them sign off on a letter of understanding regarding the specificity of the spending restrictions.
- The board voted to have the chairman sign the letter of understanding after it is reviewed by each supervisor.

- County Crew Report
-- Discussion about trees that need sprayed in right of way on 230th street.

- Engineer’s Project Update.
-- New bridge on m35 has rough approaches.

- Highway 20 Update.
-- S curves on 220th street are now open.
-- M50 could be open my September 8, weather permitting.
-- Engineer doesn’t know if M50 and N28 will be open for harvest, but it is very likely that it will be closed during October.
--- Engineer hasn’t heard anything about the contractors starting early.
-- Yankee Ave. is closed for a couple of weeks.
-- Cement plant has been set north of Lytton on N28
--- Paving set to begin in September.
--- The N28 intersection will be complete before they move west.

- Discussion about the cost of asphalt.

- Discussion about no parking signs on county road M54 at the outlet in Lake View, Iowa.
-- There doesn’t seem to be any ordinance establishing that area as a no parking zone.
-- People from the trailer park often put nasty notes on the cars that park there.
-- law enforcement doesn’t enforce no parking because of the lack of ordinance establishing a no parking zone.
-- Engineer proposes prohibiting parking at the outlet bridge.

- Adjournment.
