According city administrator Adam Ledford, the city of Sac City Iowa is required to conduct a low to moderate income survey every three years so that they will remain eligible to apply for community development block grants. It is required that 200 households are surveyed and that they receive in 80% return over 51% of which have to qualify as low to moderate income households in order to continue to be eligible for community development block grants.
Mayor Barb Powell and chief of police the John Thomsen met with the Iowa Dept of transportation to discuss the state routes to school program. According to Powell the city could be eligible for up to a $250,000 grant for the school system to make the routes to school safe. There are three committees on this all together one from Sac City, one from Wall Lake, and one from Lake View.
There is a July deadline for these committees to get that information to the department of transportation so that the grant application can be written.
According to Powell the main data that was collected was regarding the status of sidewalks and signage. The number one and two priorities are to get the stop lights at Sac Elementary school working properly, and to move the stoplight from the middle of the block to the corner at the community center where it has been noted that the students are actually crossing. The mayor also noted that there are “a lot” of sidewalks that are in disrepair.
The Mayor indicated that when the report is complete it will be presented to the City Council.
Joe Behrens of the Region XII Council of Governments will be appearing at the June 27, 2011 SAC City council meeting to educate the council and any members of the public that wish to extend about tax increment financing (TIF). The city administrator indicated that he is inviting other governmental entities to attend.
It was noted that the new playground in city park is getting used “quite a bit”.
Three engineering finalists for the street project have been invited to come to Sac City June 13, 1011 for interviews. Each candidate will have 15 minutes to a presentation and then sit for 15 minute Q&A.
