Key events and decisions from the April 11, 2011 Sac County city meetings...




1. Schaller spring cleanup dates are May 2, May 3, and May 4.

2. The five blocks of Main Street in Schaller that were screwed up is said to be due to improper backfill during a sewer line install.

3. Schaller City Council may bring in a stray animal removal expert.

4. The Auburn City Council tabled the discussion of charging rent to the fire department for the use of the fire department building.

5. Tom Lake was awarded the Wall Lake City Cemetery maintenance contract.

6. A property dispute between Doc’s and his neighbor in Wall lake Iowa involving a broken eaves spout on a shared roof will be going to the Planning and Zoning committee for review.

7. The Wall Lake pool is getting tons of new equipment including file cabinets, a hot dog griller, carpeting, a microwave, pool drain covers, and a new spine board.

8.Wall Lake city clean up days will be April 30 and May 1.

9. Cafeteria plan employees of the City of Wall Lake will be allowed family memberships to the Wall Lake Fitness Center as part of their compensation.

10. Both Schaller and Wall Lake citizens questioned why the storm sirens didn’t blow in their towns during the April 9 event.

11. Lake View Planning and Zoning Commission has tentatively decided to sit on any decision to specifically rezone Rardin’s Salvage property from industrial to commercial.

12. The Sac City Waste Water Treatment Plant project is about 80% complete.

13. The Sac City Council gave $21,000 from the gas fund to Chamber/Mainstreet to beautify North 5th Street.

14. The Sac City Council opened up the single bid for a garbage truck. Outright purchase price is $119K; with trade in is $108K. This item will be reviewed at a future date.

15. The Sac City Council took the first steps towards creating a permitting process for burning that will allow citizens to burn outside of the spring and fall open burn timeframes. The city administrator will return to the council in the future with a draft amendment.

16. Sac City provided a worker and equipment to help Early cleanup on April 10, 2011.

17. The City of Sac City’s various fund balances have increased, in some cases as much as 25%.

  1. I can't figure out how the town of Auburn thinks they own the fire department building when they only paid $25,000 towards the building and the Fire Department fundraised the remaining $90,000. Looks to me that the fire department owns a majority, as well as ALL of the interior items...fridge, table, chairs, stove, etc. Amazing to me. Maybe another case of too much governmental control!?
