Sac City Council partially forgives citizen’s sewer bill
SAC CITY, IOWA – MARCH 28, 2011
Kathryn Hansen, who was away from her home in Sac City, Iowa for the winter returned recently to find that the water line on her property broke and flooded the crawl space underneath her house.
Because the water was not running into a sanitary sewer, and was therefore not being treated at the waste water treatment plant, the Sac City, Iowa City Council was asked to consider forgiving her sewer bill on the evening of March 28, 2011 during the regular meeting of the council.
In 2008, the council did not forgive the sewer bill of a resident who left his hose running. In the winter of 2009/2010 the council did partially forgive the sewer bill of a resident whose basement flooded. In both of those cases, just like this one, no water entered the sanitary sewer.
The city council voted 4 - 0in favor of forgiving the sewer bill while keeping a minimum service charge in place. Councilperson Gary Hansen abstained because he is related to Hansen.
