Mildred Barnhill, age 97, of Sac City, IA, passed away Thursday, February 3, 2011, at Loring Hospital in Sac City.
Mildred Elaine Waterson was born on March 31, 1913 to Charles Ernest and Mary Jane (Quail) Waterson in Sac City. They lived in Arkansas for a while and then moved back to Sac City where she attended elementary school and graduated from high school in 1932. She earned her Certified Medical Aid Certificate and worked at Newell for one year and for the rest of her career she worked at Loring Hospital until her retirement in 1985.
On June 8, 1932, Mildred was united in marriage to Harry Delmus Barnhill in South Sioux City, Nebraska. To this union a daughter, Jeanne Ann Barnhill was born. Mildred created a loving and comfortable home for her family. She enjoyed painting, sewing, gardening, cooking and crocheting. Often sharing her beautiful crafts with others. Her special memories included the friendships she had with her Indian friends, Edna, Mabel and Mildred Kaiona. She also loved caring for her dogs and birds.
Survivors include her daughter, Jeanne Ann Barnhill of Sac City; several nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews; her caregivers Christi Boeckman and Rose McCarty who were so special to her, along with all the other employees at Black Hawk Life Care Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Mary Jane Waterson; husband Harry Barnhill; brothers: William, Ernest, and Sammie Waterson who died at two years of age from diphtheria; sisters: Luella Stephan, Elenor Rasdal and Dora Barthman; mother and father-in-law Charlie and Edna Barnhill; brothers and sisters-in-law: Delmar and Opal Barnhill and Glen and Delphine Uren; nieces Dorothy Carnine and Lillian Fertig; and great-niece Barbara Bogardus.
