JANUARY 25, 2011
The East Sac County Raiders proved their worth over the Denison girls on Tuesday in basketball action. Both teams traveled to Denison to play a pair of games. In the opener, the Raider defense proved too much for the Denison girls as they jumped out to 9-2 first quarter lead after trailing in the opening minute 2-0. That lead went to 18-5 at the half, and from there they cruised to their final 34-17 victory. Ashton Blum dropped in 10 points for the Raiders to pave the way. She was followed by 9 from Lexie Berry, 8 from Kendal Herrig, 3 from Lexi Willson, and 2 each from Sydney Ernst and Ally Mandernach. Berry and Ernst grabbed 15 and 8 rebounds respectively for East in the win. Berry also led in steals with 5 followed by 4 from Herrig and 3 each from Willson and Bailey Jacobsen. Ernst and Sam Nissen each got 2 as well.
The second game was no contest for East as Jordan Fischer led the 8th grade scoring attack with her 18 points. Brooke Odendahl also went double figures with her 10 tallies. Also pitching in were Sydney Schwanz with 4, and Jaylynn Peters and Ariana Batz with 2 each in the lop-sided 41-2 win. Schwanz dominated the glass with her 8 boards. Odendahl pulled down 5 more while Fischer and Aslnn Jarvis each grabbed 3. Batz had 7 steals, causing trouble for the Denison girls with her defense and Schwanz and Nicole Huser each got 4 while Fischer and Peters each took 3 in a game that saw the Raider defense hold the Monarch team scoreless until inside the last minute of the game.
