Marie Berg passed away on Christmas morning at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove, Iowa. She was born April 20, 1912 in Galva, Iowa to Jennie Wisch Holdorf and Henry Holdorf. She was baptized in infancy in Galva and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa. The closing years of her life drew her into a deep and growing relationship with her Lord and Savior.
After receiving her education, she worked at the Adams Ranch where she met Frank Berg. They were married on March 18, 1943 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. God blessed their union with four children Larry Berg of Kiron; Marilyn (Delwyn) Johnson of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Karilyn (Dennis) Schlappi of Morton, Illinois and Elaine (Paul) Neumann of Odebolt, Iowa. She had ten grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Frank and Marie farmed the family land until he passed away in 1989. She remained a helper to Larry until the week before her death. She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron. As long as she was able she served as an active member of the Ladies Aid, Mission Sewing Circle, and the Wheeler Birthday Club. In her free time, she always enjoyed reading, gardening and tending her flowers. Her family was a great source of joy for her. She was dearly loved by them all and respected as a prayer warrior and a deep well of wisdom.
Her husband, Frank, her parents, and two brothers, Leonard Holdorf and Carl Holdorf, preceded Marie in death. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as one sister Lois (Rudy) Schoon of Pomeroy, Iowa; other relatives and dear friends.
Services will be Monday, December 27 at 11 A.M. at the Bethel Lutheran Church in Kiron, with Pastors Tricia Underberg and Dennis Schlappi officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
