Passed Away - Phyllis Means




Phyllis Means, age 87, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 27, 2010, in Missouri Valley, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Mark Volkers will officiate, with burial to follow in Ferguson Cemetery, Lake View, Iowa. Friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday one hour prior to services.

Born July 27, 1923, in Lake City, Iowa, Phyllis Marie Means was the daughter of Alva and Cora (Hoke) Moad. She grew up in the Wall Lake area, graduating from Wall Lake High School.

On April 15, 1945, Phyllis was united in marriage to Lawrence Means in Troy, Kansas. The couple was blessed with six children: Sheryl, Shirley, Larry, Gerald, Philip, and Donna Rae.

Phyllis enjoyed reading, traveling and playing Bingo. She took special pride in her family and loved spending time with all of them.

Survivors include five children, Sheryl (Duane) Eaton of Covina, CA, Shirley (Paul) Maschino of Missouri Valley, Larry (Corinne) Means of Onalaska, WI, Gerald Means and special friend Agie of Holly Springs, PA, and Philip Means and fiancée Ann of Ida Grove; eight grandchildren, Steve, Pam, Lance, Lana, Nancy, Philip, Jr., Jennifer, and Burt; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence in 1982; a daughter, Donna Rae Ho; her parents; two brothers, Robert and Gerald Moad; and a sister, Thelma Schossow.
