FIRST LOOK: August 10, 2010 Sac County Supervisors – Supervisors allow use of per diem checks for Sheriff’s Department employees for training
SAC CITY, IOWA – AUGUST 10, 2010

1. Call to Order
- The Sac County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with all members present, Dean Stock, Chairman, presiding. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted.
2. Approval of Agenda.
- It was moved by Bensley and seconded by Hecht to approve the agenda as posted. Ayes all, motion carried.
3. Sac County Supervisors allow use of per diem checks for Sheriff’s Department employees for training.
- Ken McClure, Sac County Sheriff, discussed an option to adopt a per diem policy for county employees attending training, which could be approved in advance of the training session so that those attending would not have to wait to be reimbursed for expenses.
It was moved by Hecht and seconded by Bensley to allow the Sheriff’s department to advance a per diem allowance to employees attending training sessions with receipts and the unspent balance to be accounted for upon their return to work. Ayes all, motion carried.
4. Sheriff updates Supervisors on cost and dates of training new deputy.
- The Sheriff informed the Board that Deputy Erskine will be attending an eight week police academy at Western Iowa Tech in Sioux City. Deputy Erskine will receive a grant in the amount of $2600 with the remaining $1200 being paid by Sac County.
5. Sheriff updates Supervisors on the status of the new back-up generator for repeater tower at the landfill.
6. Approval of a joint drainage claim in district 1, Pocahontas.
7. Approval of a $1,750.00 pipe repair.
- It was moved by Hecht and seconded by Bensley to approve a drainage claim for watchman duties in the amount of $73.00 on Jt DD 1, Main Open Ditch. Ayes all, motion carried.
It was moved by Hecht and seconded by Bensley to approve a proposal for surface pipe repair on Jt DD 16, 30, & 92, located in Section 12, Douglas Twp in the amount of $1750.00. Ayes all, motion carried.
8. Supervisors discuss effect of weather on area roads.
9. Supervisors discuss status of Sauk Rail Trail.
10. Supervisors call County Engineer to see if he intends to report.
- No contract for overlay project yet available for supervisors to approve.
- Supervisors discuss rock crushing project.
-supervisors discuss cleanout project.
11. Supervisors discuss absentee ballots mailings.
12. Supervisors discuss Iowa Central Community College levy measures in upcoming election.
13. Adjournment.
- The Sac County Engineer submitted his report on activities of the county road crews via fax.
With there being no further business, on motion, the meeting was adjourned.
