This is NOT a story about the Sac City Clinic.

In a report released earlier today, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin's Population Health Institute ranked all of the counties in the United States of America by state for how healthy it's citizens are.
Sac County was ranked the number two county in Iowa for physical environment, but placed dead last for clinical care. Sac County is ranked 49th over all.

[NAME OF FACEBOOK FRIEND], I am having a hard time with this whole report. Something about it reminds me of the kind of project that is put together just because there was money available from a grant somewhere, and this foundation figured it could squeeze a few thousand around the edges if they took some 10 year old census data and some DHS numbers and pooped out a report.
On the other hand, I have to ask myself, is it possible that the anecdotal evidence of which we are all aware that goes to the contrary of this report is slanted in favor of people like ourselves who have a reasonable amount of money, are relatively young, and are on the internet. Is it possible that the truly unfortunate in our midst, the older people on fixed incomes, the destitute homeless poor, those that aren’t able to get on the internet, and tell us how much they like their doctor have a really rough time getting decent clinical care in Sac County?
I also question human nature a little here as well. I wonder how much more accepting of these numbers we would be if we were in the top ten. That said, It seems really hard to believe that Sac County is dead last. I’ve lived in a wide variety of places and have seen much worse. In fact, one time I almost had gall bladder removal surgery because of a misdiagnosis in Blackhawk County. (rated 3 in clinical care, for the record) It turned out to be acid reflux.... See More
