STATEMENT/THANK YOU
(From Sac County Supervisor Rick Hecht)
We have seen our purchasing power, especially like with asphalt, tire, equipment replacement, I mean, it’s just dropped dramatically, and I guess I thank you for having an open mind for that.
QUESTION/STATEMENT
My sister lives over in the flood zone on the Missouri, and she’s wondering how they’re going to rebuild these roads and the interstates going to have to be all rebuilt.
QUESTIONS
Terry, would you consider the following two policy options? As an old supply side economist, myself, I would be one of those strongly favoring a voucher system for the educational, putting in place for the money going with the students wherever they would want to go. And would you consider that, number one, and number two, would you consider directing your education department to adopt the Judy hence style of educational regimen in these schools at some level to take the place of some of the politically correct stuff that goes on there now?
QUESTION
With so many different nationalities migrating into Iowa, compared to what it used to be a couple of generations ago, is that a stumbling block for teaching?
STATEMENT
I’d just like to point out another stumbling block for our education is been the no child left behind. It really creates a problem in the classroom for the teachers to be able to engage with the students that are able to learn at the same level, and when you add in those other students that can’t learn at the same level and they have behavioral problems and things like that, those teachers can’t be effective in the classroom.
STATEMENT
You know, when you were talking about minority children and the lack of parents, education and how that can be lacked, I do- and I’m a social worker and I just graduated and [UNINTELLIGIBLE] degree but I really feel that even though the parents may want to be involved, they can’t be involved because there is that lack of the language. They don’t have the language, and my job right now, we’re – I’m on the cultural competency for my job, I mean that is part of my job is to make sure all of our workers are cultural competent in the area, and I just feel, as I’m doing my research, It’s not effective unless we’re, as a community, able to accept that into our community, and so I think that education is hindered by that, and I see that quality of care in the medical field is affected by that and I think it’s just a downhill. They just don’t know where to go, so.
STATEMENT
I wanted to commend you on your approach to attracting business to Iowa, realizing that the carrot usually works better than the stick, and that eventually the agriculture boom will fade once again and there needs to be something else in its place to keep the state going, and anything else that you can do to attract business to the state and jobs would be-
COMPLISULT
I told the two of you on the campaign trail that you would be a better governor this time around than you were before. Thank you for proving me right
