  1. Good Job Barb...I feel if our community can help out these people and anyone else that may need it is GREAT!! A lot of people don't know where to go for help and if we can get the word out that there is help out there, people may use it.

  2. Yep, that's why she had the police conduct surveillance on these homes, didn't suggest any plans for how this was going to be funded, and in fact didn't even change gears and start to phrase it as a project intended to "help" people until about 3/4 of the way through the discussion.

Real humanitarian, that Barb. There is a meeting on the 8th... I'll go ahead and follow up with the council at that point and see how many homes have had all of the issues on the list fixed at zero cost to the low and fixed income homeowners at the named addresses.

  4. How great would it be if the Partners for Progress were able to turn what was initially just the city picking on poor people into an actual project that will improve the community without using the police to hassle them? I think the community would be very interested in hearing what your group intends to do, Amy.

Are the P4P going to go get onto the City Council Agenda for the 8th?

  5. I think the city needs to start getting some things done with some of these houses in town.we have people from other towns driving past these and i think it's kind of a embarrassment to the city and the people of this town.a lot of these people can do something about cleaning things up but would rather spend there money on booze, drugs, race cars, junking.maybe the city council needs to get out and drive some of these streets and take a look and get something done!

  6. i have been with P4P from the start and it has never been a group picking on the poor...you should come to one of our meetings and check it out...we are here to help our community. We are trying to use all resources out there with the city, to better our community. As far as I know the police haven't hassled them, I or anyone else could have drove around and seen the issues that need to be addressed..Remember P4P FREE CYCLE is Fri Aug. 5th drop off from 1-7p and the FREE CYCLE is Sat. Come and CYCLE!!!!

  7. Amy, I assume you are addressing me, so I'll say the same thing again with emphasis of the key points in ALL CAPS so that it is more clear...

I think that the P4P has deliberately turned their organization into a private group to hide their financial activities from the public. I think that TSN will not be welcome and will be asked to leave should someone be assigned to attend.

However, since you are offering, give me the time, date and location of the next meet, and I'll send a cameraman.

  9. My suggestion would be that someone, anyone, contact these homeowners and discuss first. To me that would be a proactive step, talk with them, discuss the concerns, offer solutions.

  10. I just recently moved into the Sac City area and thus far have been happy with what it has to offer my family. I have noticed Sac City like any other city across the state of Iowa has good and bad houses and properties within its area. My opinion is in agreement with another of the posters, in that if you are going to "target" these properties for improvement, then a simple notice or discussion with that property owner might be a simple fix. Unless there are certain ordinances stating exactly what state of repair a property or building needs to be in then that is about the extent of the cities power I would think. If these ordinances do exist then they should of course be enforced in the least invasive way possible. I don't think a public forum announcing properties in need of improvement is a good way to get this done. Private notices in the form of a request will probably go a lot further. Of course in a lot of cases it may just take an offer from a neighbor to mow the lawn or help another move stuff to a dump. I would venture a guess that a good number of people are in need of assistance and would readily accept it without the public notification. Thank you.
