EARLY, IOWA - DECEMBER 7, 2010
On November 2, 2010 the Early City Council entertained testimony from several citizens about the ongoing dispute they are having with a local bar, though the citizens and the bar owner haven't actually met face to face.
In response to what was said on that evening, the bar owner and the Sac County Sheriff showed up at the December 7, 2010 Early City Council meeting to share their side of the story. This is the video of that event.
“90% of the time the complaints aren’t valid”
“It seems to me that she watches for when I have entertainment… Five minutes after the band starts, she’s on the phone.”
Sac County Sheriff discusses specific calls or service to the bar. There seem to be very few legitimate loud music calls. Sheriff suggests that the council’s discussion from the November 2, 2010 meeting is sending mixed signals to the citizens, and that he will charge the bar owner, if the council would like, so that a judge can make a decision.
Sac County Sheriff addresses criticism directed at his department by the Early City Council during the November 2, 2010 Early City Council meeting that he feels is not accurate.
“What do you want us to do?”
- Bar owner thinks the number of complaints is getting ridiculous.
- Sheriff shares with the council the constructive criticism he’s taken to heart and the changes that his department has made in reaction.
Council, Sheriff, and bar owner discuss specific incidents.
“I ain’t leaving. If that’s what she’s trying to gain, she’s not going to get it.”
The option of getting a noise variance is discussed.
Frustration with frequency of calls revisited.
Sit down meeting between council and bar owner, moderated by the sheriff suggested.

Heaven for bid the sheriff have to do any more than he has to. Isn't the City of Early "contracting" the county sheriff to enforce laws? I don't understand how there can be a year's worth of complaints and nothing done about it? Grow a pair, and do what you've already admitted you can do and charge her and let a judge decide- that was a major waste of the council meeting's time.....
ReplyDeleteIf you watched the videos, you can actually hear the sheriff say that law enforcement supports the bar and has found a majority, (not all,)of the complaints to be unfounded, so when you say a year's worth of complaints, what you are talking about is a year's worth of unfounded complaints.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the record of criminal complaints at the Sac County Courthouse, (and available right here under the "Crime" tab over to your left,) the Sac County Sheriff's department HAS been charging people in those instances where the complaints were founded.
... and again, according to the information discussed at this meeting, the Sheriff's department hasn't received a majority of the complaints the citizens alleged at the November Early City Council meeting. There is just the one lady who keeps calling.
... and again, according to the information discussed at this meeting, the Mayor of Early was IN the bar at the time this citizen called in to complain, and was seemingly unaware that a noise violation was taking place because it wasn't loud in the bar.
I understand that there is a contingent of people that have a bone to pick with the sheriff, but for god's sake, if you're going to run a smear campaign, the bullshit that dribbles out of your mouth has to at least be TRUE to be effective.
In fact, If I didn't actually know better, I could make the case that Anonymous December 21, 2010 2:20PM is an operative FOR the Sheriff's Department based in the following article at Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disinformation
I don't actually think Anonymous December 21, 2010 - 2:20PM is a Sac County Sheriff's operative, however. I think it's just someone who didn't take the time to actually watch the videos of this conversation.
