SAC CITY, IOWA – OCTOBER 18, 2010
Last year East Sac County School petitioned the state for an innovating calendar, the basis for which is that there are 177 teaching days instead of 180. The trade of is that all professional development is done in full day chucks of time, instead of via days with early dismissal.
Due to a cut down in travel time, etc, there actually ends up being more teaching time in those 177 days than in the 180 day schedule. This information was discovered and approved by the joint WLVA and Sac boards in 2009. This information appears to be a regurgitation of that knowledge rather than a rediscovery, though given that nothing else is changed; it seems likely that it still pertains.
The board approved continuing the innovative calendar for the 2011-2012 school year unanimously.
