Graveside Service: with military graveside rites October 13, 2010 at Wall Lake Cemetery.
Richard Joseph Cook was born in Carroll, Iowa, on December 18, 1925, the son of Floyd and Carrie (Simon) Cook. He was baptized in the catholic faith in Odebolt on February 28, 1926 and attended country school near Wall Lake where he grew up with his eleven brothers and sisters.
Dick was inducted into the United States Army on November 28, 1945, serving during WWII as a medical tech. He was honorably discharged on December 26, 1946.
On April 29, 1952, he was united in marriage to Joan Lindquist at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Early. Two sons were born to this union: Sam and Michael. They made their home in Seattle, Washington, where he worked as a cemetery sexton at Lake View Cemetery retiring in 1991. In 1994 they moved back to Wall Lake. Dick was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved spending time at the lake with his family, whom he loved and treasured. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle.
Dick, age 84, passed away on Friday, October 8, 2010, at Twilight Acres Nursing Home in Wall Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Joan Cook on January 11, 2003; five brothers: Mike, Harry, Roy, Clifford, and Bob Cook; and three sisters: Flossie Biesch, Bernidine Kelly and Marian Jenkins.
Survivors include his two sons: Sam Cook of Marysville, Washington and Michael Cook and wife Laura of Bothell, Washington; five grandchildren: Christopher Cook, Carrie Cook, Naomi Lackaff, Amber Clifton and Marissa Cook; and eight great-grandchildren: Jaimin, Mya, Hope, Jade, Sebastian, Madelynn, Julianna and Spencer. He is also survived by his brother, John Cook and wife Velma of McCook Lake, SD; and two sisters: Blanch “Midge” Hawks of Sac City and Elizabeth “Betty” Blum and husband William of Wall Lake; sisters-in-law: Marcella Cook of Wall Lake and Anita Cook of Wall Lake; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
