New Sac City entrance signs resolution hits minor hiccup
November 14, 2011
SAC CITY - The council voted down the following resolution approving an application to the Sac County Endowment Foundation (SCEF) for entry signage 2 to 1.
Sac City Resolution 2011 - 17The rules for obtaining a grant from the SCEF are becoming increasingly stricter. One of the new requirements this round is that entities indicate a show of support for the application, which is what this resolution would have accomplished.
As the council only had three persons in attendance, Jim Frederick was able to block passage of this resolution due to the requirement that resolutions pass with a majority of the votes of the full council, as opposed to a majority of those present. Frederick indicated that he wished to see wording in the resolution capping the amount of money at $8,000.00 and that he would like this issue to be voted upon by the full council. Both Bill Brenny and Gary Hansen voted for the resolution.
The north 5th street sign is expected to replicate same design at the East and West signs. The south 16th street will simply be a sign on two poles. The entire cost of the project is estimated to be $16K to $17K with $8,000 expected to come from the city, and the remainder to come from the a combination of Sac County Endowment and the Kiwanis. The participation of the Sac Community Foundation, Sac Men’s Club, and the Sac Community Chest is still pending..
This issue can, and is expected to be bought up again at the November 28, 2011 meeting.
