Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Odebolt, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend DeeAnn Klapp will officiate, with burial to follow in the Odebolt Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be held Monday from 4-8 p.m. at the Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Odebolt.
Born May 5, 1924, in Portland, Oregon, Eleanor Jean (Spaugh) Siebrecht was the daughter of Cecil and Olive (Howard) Spaugh. She grew up and received her education in Oregon, then attended Ohio University for one year.
On September 21, 1945, Jean was united in marriage to Kermit Siebrecht at Grant's Pass, Oregon. The couple made their home north of Odebolt where they farmed and raised their family.
Jean was a member of the United Methodist Church in Odebolt, Eastern Star, and was active in Rainbow, serving many years as Mother Advisor. She was an avid reader, composed poetry, enjoyed cooking for her family, and was an accomplished pianist. She took great delight in her grandchildren and their many activities and accomplishments.
Survivors include four children, Barbara (James) Jensen of Onawa, Rebecca (Mike) Carstensen of Schaller, Alan (Pat) Siebrecht of Ida Grove, and Rita (Steve) Jensen of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren; 2 step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Kermit in 2009; her parents; a daughter, Margaret Siebrecht; a grandson, Ben Pepper; a grandson in infancy; two brothers, Roger Spaugh and Lyle Spaugh; and a sister, Miriam Spaugh
