Mike “Rabbit” Burns, age 57, of Sac City, Iowa, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2010, at his home in Sac City.


John Michael Burns was born on April 2, 1952, in Sac City the son of John and Mary (Davis) Burns. He attended the Sac City schools, graduating with the class of 1970 and also graduated from Iowa Central Community College with a welding certificate. Following graduation, Mike was inducted into the United States Navy, serving his country from 1970 through 1974, earning the rank of Machinist Mate. He returned to Sac City working at Noble Manufacturing, Iowa Hydraulics as a machinist, Sac City Metal Works and VT industries. Mike loved motorcycles, and was the owner of a custom cycle engineering shop. If you needed specialty work done on your motorcycle, Rabbit was the one who could fix it. He was a collector of unique items.


Mike was very proud of his kids and grandchildren. He was a humble man, proud to be a veteran, and loved to get a rise out of people.


Survivors include his son, Robert (Crystal) Burns of Story City, IA; daughters: Shannon Castell, of Perry, IA, Kori (Ben) Lawson of Perry, IA; Jackie (Jerad) Covey of Omaha, NE; grandchildren: Ashley and Allison Burns, Matt Johnson, Alan Fisher, Paige Castell, and Jenna Lawson; brother Monte Burns of Sac City; and extended family members and many friends.


Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Burns, and aunt Olive Anderson.
