To all of the “If you don’t like it, MOVE!!1!” people (a very special edition of the Sac City, Iowa Streets of Shame (#5) project.)
SAC CITY, IOWA – AUGUST 22, 2010

You and I are obviously experiencing a difference in opinion regarding our approaches to problem solving. I happen to agree with Sac City Councilperson Brenny, who seems to think that one valid way of getting property owners who are being dirt bags and letting their property go to seed is to publically shame them.
I’m not going to presume to know the precise details of what you are espousing, but I get the feeling that if you were trying to advise the property owners on Main Street surrounding the property formerly known as “Matt’s Shoes” you might suggest to them that they should just move away and leave those Main Street buildings empty.
I’m not suggesting that your approach isn’t valid. Certainly, if they don’t like it, they can move, and then their problem will be solved.
Where I think the philosophy to which you seem to adhere breaks down is that as the streets and buildings of Sac City, Iowa continue to degrade, the number of people you are addressing with your “If you don’t like it, why don’t you leave” approach will continue to grow, until you find yourself overwhelmed by the numbers.
Because I love Sac City, it makes me sad that you and people like you might eventually be listened too. People that don’t like the problems the dirt bags that ran our town 10 and 15 years ago caused will eventually begin to take your advice and just drift away, never to darken our doorsteps again. Should these people you claim to be sick of all move, you will be free to live your life without having to hear anyone say something about Sac City that you don’t like.
Unfortunately for you, you will be very lonely.
In your honor, please enjoy this photo of this pile of weed covered shit and dangerous building located at the city water plant. (Note: totally open holes in falling down, piece of crap building into which you could climb to explore… if you were the type of person that is curious, but haven’t yet developed enough sense to stay away from dangerous nuisance properties that is.)

Wonder what the city would do with it if a couple of kids wandered inside and it fell on them...only to leave them trapped? Unfortunately, it's those types of situations that initiate actions to fix these types of problems.
