The East Sac FFA Chapter Awards Banquet, which was held on Tuesday, March 22nd, at 6:45 P.M. began with a delicious meal of pork, baby red potatoes, wimpy beans, and a dinner roll, catered by Yetter Locker of Yetter. Chapter President, Brent Drey, with the assistance of the 2010-11 chapter officers conducted the event.

Throughout the evening, many awards were presented to FFA members who had worked hard during the year to be active members in the FFA and go beyond required activities. 44 members were recognized for their participation and accomplishments in Skills Career Development Events (CDEs) at the sub-district, district, and state levels. 48 members were recognized for their participation and accomplishments in Leadership CDEs at the sub-district, district, and state levels. Local proficiency awards were presented to 28 members and chapter awards were presented to 28 members.

There were many presentations mixed in with the awards presentations as well. The Experience the Action team, consisting of Kyle Obmann, Kyle Peters, Mitch Stark, Holly Nuetzman, and Korey Drost, showed their presentation to everyone during the meal. Alex Roth and Lauren Houska, presented the FFA Creed to the audience. This year the chapter had four retiring officers and they are as follows: Brent Drey, Kyle Obmann, Jay Highland, and Korey Drost. The four of them gave their retiring addresses together. The guest speaker at the banquet was Jake Kent, the Northwest State Vice-President, who gave a very motivating speech.

Dave Cooley, Dale Drey, Keith Berry, Rich Halbur, Rob Kent, and Jeff Degner received the Special FFA Appreciation Award. The “Honorary FFA Degree” went to Dale and Kitty Drey, Dennis and Cindy Obmann, Kent and Kellie Highland, and Wes and Kim Drost for being very supportive of our chapter and showing their commitment during the time of Brent’s, Kyle’s, Jay’s, and Korey’s involvement. This year the “Parents of the Year Award” went to Rob and Sarah Kent for all of their help on rebuilding the greenhouse at the middle school, attending multiple state conventions, serving on the Alumni Committee, and helping members with their CDE’s.

Jeff Degner spoke about the new Alumni Affiliate and presented four scholarships to graduating seniors. Brent Drey received the East Sac FFA Scholarship, which is sponsored by an anonymous donor in the community. Kyle Obmann, Jay Highland, and Miriam Free also received scholarships of $500 each.

Following the Alumni presentation, the “Year in Review” slide show of various activities FFA members have participated in throughout the year was presented. Then Brent Drey, the retiring Chapter President, announced the new 2011-2012 junior and senior chapter officers.

The FFA Chapter would like to thank everyone who helped make the banquet a success, including the 2011 Alumni Committee. The chapter would also like to thank those who contributed to the free-will donation jar, which collected over $600. Finally, the chapter would like to thank Producers Hybrids for sponsoring all the plaques that were presented to all award winners and retiring officers. The night was very enjoyable with a proud showcase of the accomplishments of the chapter.
