Born June 15, 1924, in Ute, Iowa, Elaine Lena (Mauch) Peters was one of eight children born to Edward and Emma (Miller) Mauch. She attended rural school in Castana.
On September 17, 1941, Elaine was married to Forrest J. Peters in Dakota City, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Battle Creek where they raised their family of six children, Judy, Bonnie, John, Mae, Ed, and Tom.
Elaine was a hard-working woman who loved the out-of-doors. Over the years, she worked at the local feed store, cooked at the hospital, cleaned poultry, ran a cream station, supervised a bean-walking crew, sold worms, and worked at the nursing home. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and visiting with people. Elaine took pride in the many sets of dish towels she embroidered for her children and grandchildren. She will be remembered as a happy and contented woman who loved her grandchildren and had a good sense of humor.
Survivors include five children, Bonnie (Jerry) Bessom of Las Vegas, NV, John (Cindy) Peters of Battle Creek, Mae Hedberg of Battle Creek, Ed (Rebecca) Peters of Lake View, and Tom (Dena) Peters of Schaller; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Frank Collins of Ida Grove; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; her parents; a daughter, Judy Collins; a grandson, Mike Peters; a son-in-law, Don Hedberg; five brothers; and one sister.
