The Sac County Board of Supervisors met in regular session with all members present, Jack Bensley, Chairman, presiding. The minutes of the last meeting were approved as submitted. It was moved by Stock and seconded by Hecht to approve the agenda as posted. Ayes all, motion carried.
The Board reviewed a memo from Tom Schuetz, Group Services representative, regarding the County’s group health care coverage. The Board requested that Mr. Schuetz be present with the Board and he can discuss renewal further.
The County Sheriff advised the Board that a used generator stored in the courthouse maintenance garage would be suitable backup for the Sac County Ambulance garage in Sac City. Some repairs are needed and the Supervisors approved the needed repairs. The Sheriff then informed the Board that a representative from Midwest Fence in Fort Dodge had been to look at the damages to the exercise yard for the county jail. He will make his recommendations and submit them for the Board’s consideration.
Laura Zimmerman, Sac City Chamber Main Street Director, requested approval from the Board of Supervisors to use certain county roads for detour while the Main Street portion of Highway 20 is closed for the Fourth of July parade in Sac City. It was moved by Hecht and seconded by Stock to approve the request and submit a letter of support to the Iowa Dept of Transportation. Ayes all, motion carried.
A request for funding from the County’s Special Projects fund was presented to the Board by a group from the Sac City Chamber Main Street. $8,000.00 was requested for the North 5th Street beautification project. The entire project will cost approximately $43,600 with other funding coming from the City of Sac City and a grant from the Sac County Endowment Fund. The Board indicated support for the project but was unsure of the amount they would pledge.
Adam Ledford, City Administrator for Sac City, spoke briefly to the Board about a Tax Increment Financing education program through Region XII Council of Governments.
There was some discussion about the disposal of debris from the tornadoes that passed through Sac County on April 9, 2011. The County Engineer updated the Board on activities of the county road crews and the status of current maintenance and construction projects. It was moved by Stock and seconded by Hecht to authorize the County Engineer to use County equipment to assist communities and rural property owners in cleaning up the debris from the tornadoes of April 9, 2011. Ayes all, motion carried.
With there being no further business, on motion, the meeting was adjourned.
