Damn right "Details Pending", a person froze to death in his vehicle after the Sheriff's Department towed his vehicle. I would keep this a secret if I could also. I will bet details will be kept pending forever. The name of the officer will also be kept pending. Actions taken to insure this never happens again, pending. An investigation, pending. A lawsuit, maybe will expose the truth. It will be hard to gloss this over as anything other than incompetance.
ReplyDeleteSadly, if only the officer would have looked inside the vehicle, he would be a hero. Now that ship has sailed. I would bet the man who froze to death's family is not told everything about this. Am sure also that the Sheriff's office is hoping that the person had alcohol in his system. They need this to try to save themselves from the avalanche of bad press. Remember, covering up something bad is as bad as the event. This will get worse. Much worse.
ReplyDeleteI can tell you from actually talking to the Sac County S.O.(apparently too much to ask for some before negatively commenting), that they were not involved in towing this vehicle. When the weather is bad like that it's not possible for law enforcement to be involved in every disabled vehicle. Sheriff McClure and his staff to a wonderful job with what they have. With contractual obligations in so many towns, it is difficult to keep up, especially during a winter storm.
