Sac City Planning and Zoning to start going after owners with too many cars, and other projects updates
SAC CITY, IOWA – AUGUST 31, 2010
1. Zoning map:
- Board will be notified when it arrives.
-- This is the same status update that was reported at the previous P&Z meeting.
2. Wunschel Property (old matt’s Shoes building):
- Council may make a structural engineer higher at the September 13, 2010 city council meeting.
-- This step is being taken to see of the building can come down without damaging the buildings around it.
- Keep Iowa Beautiful grant application has been submitted.
--P&Z, Chamber/Main street asked to submit letters of support to hep strengthen application.
- Application for funds to remove the asbestos has not been submitted.
-- Can only be applied for by counties and cities, and Sac City has not taken ownership of the building.
--- The city council is looking into taking ownership of the building on a temporary basis.
---- Liability for temporary ownership is not yet clear.
3. Other dilapidated buildings:
- City might be able to take advantage of a program where students will deconstruct buildings.
-- Standing in the way of this possibility is that some of the buildings, like the old boy scout building next to the VFW have no owner.
4. Too many cars:
- P&Z board to go after as yet unnamed property owner(s) for having too many cars.
- Mayor Powell will research the issue.
-- Thinks it may have to be cars that aren’t running.
