Sac City Planning and Zoning board reviews the August 9 presentation to the city council
SAC CITY, IOWA – AUGUST 31, 2010
The board felt that the presentation was effective and achieved good public awareness of the issues. Council parson Bill Brenny noted that he was still planning to visit with the owners of the building known as “The Old Matt’s Shoes” in an attempt to get them to tear the building down voluntarily.
Mayor Barb Powell was also on hand to express her feelings that though one of the proposed abandonment notices was voted down, the Sac City Council still stands behind the board’s efforts. She went on to suggest that the planning and zoning board present a plan to the council so that they can figure out a way to budget building demolition. The members of the board reacted negatively to this suggestion pointing out to the mayor that they are merely an advisory board and that it is up to the city council to make decisions about what is important. The mayor clarified her position suggesting that the board could determine which buildings are the worst and advise the council.
