Viola Harto, age 86, of Ida Grove, Iowa, died Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverend Richard Salcido will officiate, with burial in the Ida Grove Cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Saturday one hour prior to services.

Born August 9, 1923, in Sac County, Iowa, Viola Emma Harto was the daughter of Herman and Dorothea (Luckow) Burmeister. She was raised on the farm with her sister until the age of six, then moved with the family to Ulmer, Iowa. Viola went to country school through the eighth grade. She was baptized, confirmed, and later married, at Peace Lutheran Church in Ulmer. She was a homemaker and also worked at the creamery for a short time.

On March 23, 1952, Viola married Donald Harto in Ulmer. The couple made their home in Ida Grove where they became members of St. Paul Lutheran Church. Viola enjoyed participating in the Ladies Circle there and having coffee with her friends. She enjoyed craft projects, arranging artificial flowers, playing Bingo, and writing letters to family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994; her parents; and a sister, Iva Harto.

Survivors include a brother-in-law, Roland Harto of Sycamore, IL; sisters-in-law, Mildred Schuett of Ida Grove, and Rosmond Williams of Oakdale, CA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
