Burnice E. Mandernach, age 73, of Sac City, Iowa, died Sunday, February 7, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sac City, Iowa, under the direction of Christensen-Huffman Funeral Homes. The Reverends John J. McGuirk and Larry McCarty will officiate, with burial to follow in Oakland Cemetery, Sac City. Friends may call at Christensen-Huffman Funeral Home in Sac City on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. There will be a Scripture Service at 7:30 p.m. followed by a Rosary Service.

Born February 24, 1936, in Wrenshall, Minnesota, Burnice Ellen Mandernach was the daughter of Howard and Lillian (Abbott) Davis. She grew up and received her education in Minnesota.

Burnice met Lloyd Mandernach, Sr. at a dance in Storm Lake. They were married on May 15, 1954, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sac City, and made their home in Sac City. The couple was blessed with six children, Linella, Lorri, Lloyd Jr., Lee, Larry, and Lance.

Burnice was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. In earlier years she taught religious education classes, and most recently was involved in the Altar Guild and on the Diocesan Appeal committee. She enjoyed dancing, facilitating the Ravishing Red Hatters, and tending her flowers and garden. Her greatest joy was found in her grandchildren and keeping up with their many activities.

Burnice worked at several Sac City businesses over the years and sold Avon products for more than 40 years. She enjoyed her job as an audiology technician at Hearing Unlimited.

Survivors include six children, Linella Mandernach of Sac City, Lorri (Mike) Thomsen of Bondurant, Lloyd (Joy) Mandernach, Jr. and Lee (Natalie) Mandernach, all of Sac City, Larry (Karen) Mandernach of Grimes, and Lance (Molli) Mandernach of Sac City; 12 grandchildren, Travis Long, Tristine Birk, Suzanne Pettit, Sara Winkelman, and Amanda, Michele, Derek, Grant, Caiden, Mara, Ally, and Brock Mandernach; six great-grandchildren, Grace and Garrison Winkelman, Cheyenne and Ava Pettit, Andrew Birk, and Lila Westphal; a brother, Marvin (Ramona) Davis of Lakeville, MN; two sisters, Luella Zimmer of Sac City, and Nelma (Ellis) Byriel of Lytton; 13 nieces and nephews; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Lloyd in 1986; and two sisters, Maxine Cook and Donnabell Kilpela.
