Sac County Supervisors presented with Senior Center remodeling update

…turn down implied request for funding.

SAC CITY, IOWA - MARCH 29, 2011
Since late 2009, (and incrementally long before then ,) the management of the senior center occupying GAR Hall in Sac City, Iowa has been in the process of finagling the money by hook and crook to remodel the place and make it nice for the seniors who utilize the place. The actual property is owned by Sac County, and it therefore comes under the purview of the County Supervisors to say yea and nay to changes in the property. The main focus of their concerns, besides the money obviously, has been to make sure that any changes to the building adhere to the historical look of the building.

Donita Hicks and Phyllis Richardson appeared before the Supervisors at their regular meeting on March 29, 2011 to bring them up to speed on their remodeling plans.

The dining room, with the exception of valences for the windows, is done, and they wish to begin remodeling the kitchen, which will include a new ceiling, paint for the walls, new cabinets, and new flooring.

County Auditor Jim Dowling, being the person who schedules the supervisor’s agenda items, had apparently spoken previously with the ladies and asked if it were still the plan to attempt to get alternate, (non-county,) funding to replace the cabinets. Richardson fielded the question and indicated that they have already received $200 from Proliant, a promise from the Sac Community Foundation to “back us”, Possibly $2,000 from the A.O. Anderson Fund, they have a meeting scheduled with Jean Rexroat in Storm Lake, and Colburn and Son’s has promised an unspecified amount. They also intend to apply for a grant.

Sac County Supervisors Rick Hecht told the ladies that the county is going to re-shingle the building in the summer of 2011 and that they don’t have any extra money budgeted for them in this year.
