SAC CITY, IOWA – SEPTMEMBER 23, 2010
1. Call to Order
2. Nancy Houska proposes possible inclusion of Community Center in distribution of childhood obesity grant money.
- Continuing discussion about what to do with possible grant money from this partnership.
-- Board seems a little at a loss as to how this would immediately benefit them but instructs director to go through equipment catalogs and throw out some ideas.
- The board takes a third look at childhood obesity grant proposal while waiting for quorum.
3. Approval of minutes of previous meeting.
4. Correspondence.
- Thank you letter from the girl scouts.
- Member to discontinue membership, but wants to continue to support center and proposes to donate membership to person with need.
5. Approval of the bills and financial report.
- These were reviewed before the meeting while the board was waiting for a quorum to show up.
6. Donations.
- Green fees for golf outing.
- Girl Scouts.
7. Membership numbers/issues.
- up slightly from last year.
- Is REC being pursued?
- Discounted Farm Bureau memberships?
- City employees get free membership.
-- City does not reimburse for these memberships.
- School employees have a discount.
8. Youth Football
- having trouble finding referees.
9. Monthly goals for coming year.
- Not discussed.
10. Benefit to raise money for roof.
- Cattle Company again.
- $12 cover charge includes all you can eat buffet.
11. Setting up an organizational structure for putting together a large fundraiser.
- This is a need, not a want.
- Director instructed to talk to past board members.
12. Basketball tournament.
- to go down in January, Februaryish…
- Will be boys and girls.
13. Gym roof to be repaired.
14. Pool issues.
- O-ring broke, needs replaced.
- Rebuilt pump bearings ruined by leaking water.
15. Basement closet still leaking during heavy rains.
- Bullock suggests that water may be seeping up through floor.
16. Men’s locker room smells strongly of urine.
- Pipes behind urinal may be rusted through and leaking.
17. Continuing discussion of locker room smell.
18. Establishing a whistleblower ombudsman policy.
- Approved on motion.
19. Life Guard and CPR training.
- Pool not big enough for Red Cross training for lifeguards.
20. Board agrees that sign should not be used for community announcements.
- Strictly for Community Center events, approved on motion.
