SAC CITY, IOWA – OCTOBER 11, 2010
First of all, before I relay the contents of this presentation, I just want to take the time to personally thank Mayor Powell for finally acting like a leader is supposed to act. For three years she has treated the thousands of dollars in training and guidance that she, the council, and the city administrator and staff received as knowledge that the public is not deserving to know.
If Mayor Powell spends the next year requiring that her council share everything that they have learned at these trainings with the public, it will do two things.
1. It will prove to the public that the council members are attending these trainings and actually learning something, as opposed to just getting a free vacation with a massive reimbursement for fuel mileage.
2. It will give any member of the public that chooses to pay attention a foothold in the world of small town government.
2. It will greatly reduce the impression that members of the council are a bunch of arrogant assholes that think anyone outside of their circle of friends is incapable of understanding the complexity of small town government.
It is my hope that for the benefit of the public this isn’t a one time thing and that the Mayor continues to use her seat to bring more transparency to the Sac City government. It is also my hope that this program be expanded in the future and possibly be presented in work sessions so that the training can be relayed to the rest of the council and members of the council and members of the public in depth.
So without further ado…
Mayor Powell and City Administrator Ledford lay out reasoning for sharing this information.
“It’s raining Cats and Dogs” A training about how to deal with vicious animals.
“The volunteer firefighter is becoming harder and harder to live with.” Insurance companies and state regulations are more and more, not seeing a difference between a volunteer force and a professional force.

“How the city should conduct themselves in the case that they find themselves denying a liquor license.”
“Leading in tough times”

Gary Hansen’s presentation not ready, promises to give it next meeting.

Is there anyone besides me that goes to these meetings or watches the videos on tsn who notices how bored J.F. seems to be. He looks so enthused and excites to be there in every one of the meetings. I think he must be N.F. right hand man because they are always leaning together. Maybe we should consider how uninterested he looks at the next election !!!!!
