Funeral Service: 10:30 A.M. Friday, May 28, 2010 at Emanuel St. John Lutheran Church of Lytton.
Interment: May 28, 2010 at Emanuel Lutheran Cemetery ( Lytton South).


Carol Michelle Fitch-Grodahl was born in Sioux City, Iowa on September 2, 1955. She lost her courageous battle against appendix cancer on May 25, 2010, at Loring Hospital in Sac City. She was baptized into the Christian faith as an infant and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Battle Creek. Carol graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1973 and from the University of South Dakota with a degree in Business Education in 1977. She taught high school business in Lytton from 1977 to 1983. Carol met and married her partner in life, Jeffrey Grodahl on July 11, 1981. This marriage was blessed with two wonderful children, Jason in 1983, and Kari in 1986. Carol’s greatest joy was being a wife and mother and recently she had become the grandmother of Evan Grodahl, Jason and Jill’s infant son. He brought her great joy.


Carol enjoyed being involved with record keeping for the family farm and her many years as a substitute teacher for the Rockwell City-Lytton school system. Her hobbies included walking, reading, and golf. Her church and civic volunteering reflected her interest in our youth and their educations. She volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, vacation Bible School leader, and served on the youth committee at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church. She served on the boards for PTA, Dollars for Scholars, and served as Co-Chairwoman to raise new playground equipment at Lytton and Rockwell City Elementary Schools.


Carol was preceded in death by her father Warren Fitch; brother Keith Fitch; and brother-in-law Brian Blass.


Survivors include her husband Jeff; son Jason (Jill) Grodahl and grandson Evan of Urbandale; daughter Kari Grodahl of West Des Moines; mother Dorothy Fitch of Battle Creek; sister Karen (Ron) Newman of Anthon; sister-in-law Lola Fitch of Le Mars; two brothers: Craig (Janet) Fitch of Battle Creek and Sid (Amy) Fitch of Spencer; parents-in-law Wayne and Phyllis Grodahl of Lytton; Jeff’s brother Rod (Jo) Grodahl of Lytton; Jeff’s sister Gale Blass of Sac City; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.


Carol enjoyed the simple things in life and absolutely adored her family and all of the beautiful friends who touched her life.
