Viewer Concerned about Vet's Memorial in Sac city, Iowa
SAC CITY, IOWA - JUNE 3, 2010
The following was submitted anonymously to TSN a couple of Weeks ago. Thank you for the tip. Please feel free to leave aonymous folow up questions that you would likeanswered that I prhaps did not think of. It was originally submitted as a comment to a Sac County Szupervisor's video.
It is too bad they did not address the Vet's Memorial Project with Memorial Day upcoming. That project is in some desperate need of support to get finished. Hard to believe the contractor was paid up front, wouldn't finish the job, and has left them in the hole so they can't get finished. [LINE REMOVED] Incredible someone would do that with money donated by families to honor our Veterans. They deserve better than this, especially on Memorial Day.
Here’s what I found out.
1. I brought this issue up with the Sac County Supervisors at the June 1, 2010 meeting. According to them, the county are acting as hosts to the memorial and it is the responsibility of http://www.saccountyveteransmemorial.com/
2. According Peg Dettmann of the Sac County Office of Veteran’s Affairs, the contractor has been paid in full and the vet's memorial committee may hire a new contractor to finish the project. According to Ms. Dettmann, it is accurate to say that litigation has been discussed but is not being acted upon at this time.
3. Related to this issue was a call I received from a viewer expressing concerns about the spacing of the flag poles. The flags do not have room to fly without hitting the other poles.
At various points during this project, the blue prints seem to have been misinterpreted, leading to a sitting wall in the rear of the Memorial instead of a front step, and the flag poles that are too close together. I have been told that the issue of widening the length between the flag poles so that the flags can blow freely will be taken care of after the rest of the project is complete.

Why would they pay for a project 100% up front? We are told all the time to never do this in other day to day jobs once hires done. It is importain in my opinion to hire local contractors who have good reputations to do work within Sac County when available and stop getting out of town business when there are those locally just as good or better!
ReplyDeleteYou get what you pay for. I heard so many negative comments about Mr. Ortner before he started the project. I even told some people on the Vets board, but they failed to listen. Why hasen't our so wonderful county attorney (not) brought ligitation against Mr. Ortner?
ReplyDeleteHey, Earl is too busy running a smear campaign to do any prosecuting! To be fair, the vet's committee would probably need to initiate the actions, not Earl.
ReplyDeleteSounds too bad that they actually trusted this contractor to do what he was paid for. I believe i recall seeing video of an Auburn City Council meeting where this contractor's wife was actually reading a statement defending his fleecing of that town...We need to learn from this stuff people!
I think we all need to remember how Earl Hardisty landed in Sac County. He got here because he did not have a job. Earl before coming to Sac County was the county attorney in Adams County. He would still probably be there but they ran him off. The next part of this is factuall, and yes Curtis, you can go to Adams County and find this information, I have it in hand myself. It was back in 2002 Earl brought criminal charges against the chief of police in Corning for felonious misconduct. It went to the grand jury. The grand jury found the chief of police not guilty. As a result of Earl's actions the people of Adams County wrote in an attorney in the election and he won. The attorney that was wrote in didn't even want the job. Is this the type of county attorney we want? For 30 some plus years nobody in Sac County has wanted the job of county attorney. It seems they just get appointed by the board of supervisors or they are unemployed like Earl, move here and claim residency and get their name on the ballot and run uncontested and win the election becasue they have no competition. For once we have somebody that truely wants to be the county attorney and has the people of Sac County in his best interest and that is Ben Smith. Another thing that I think is fishy with Earl and the board of supervisors is how did [COMMENT REMOVED] And peope as far as these labor negiotions that Earl does, think about it, this happens once a year and it last for maybe a month and there are only the EMS and secondary roads employees that are union, not all county employees. So I don't think the job is real detailed. Earl makes it sound real good for you people. People all I did was asked questions and found some interesting things and then went to Adams County. I will not support a county attorney that does not support law enforcement.
ReplyDeleteWithout knowing the details of the Adams County case, I would personally hold off on judgement on that one. If Mr. Hardisty felt the chief of police's actions warranted charges, that doesn't mean he doesn't support law enforcement; it means he won't cover up for them. But, like I said, without knowing the details of the case, it is impossible to pass judgement on it.
