May 24, 2010 Wall Lake City Council Meeting
WALL LAKE, IOWA – MAY 24, 2010
1. Hearing on sale of property at Lot 10, Block 4, Sherwin’s 1st addition in Wall Lake, Iowa opened.
2. No written objections.
3. Hearing closed without comment.
4. Call to order.
5. Pledge of Allegiance.
6. Approval of agenda.
7. Approval of minutes of the May 10, 2010 council meeting.
8. Approval of bills.
9. Kenny harms to answer questions about insurance and contractor’s license.
- License and proof of insurance is in the works.
- In the event of a problem, Rick will be the one to which Kenny answers
- Minor disagreement between Rick and Kenny about effectiveness of televising sewer to look for infiltration after a rain storm.
10. Extended, related (to 9) discussion about water infiltration issues.
- We’re pumping 4.5 million gallons, we’re billing a million and a half, where is the rest of the water going? Can we figure that out?
11. Discussion about bowling alley’s meter and how it mysteriously stops functioning frequently… some causes suggested.
12. Discussion about bowling alley meter continued.
13. Meters inaccurate.
14. Harms lives in town, and is willing to get to work.
- Harms points out that camera can be effective after a rain.
- Locations of highest infiltration sites discussed.
- Could take 2 to 3 weeks from roughly May14 for Harms to get license squared away.
15. Twilight Acres electrical upgrade
16. Re-creation of vote to re-hire city employee.
17. City Council agrees to sell ladder truck.
18. Ordinance 2010 – 2 setting garbage rates passes 3rd reading.
- …in spite of objections to wording in residential pick-up and commercial rates clauses.
19. In depth discussion about electrical rates and how those are affected by the turbine.
20. Council sets date for work session to further discuss electrical rate issues for June 7 @ 7:00PM
21. Building permit for Cookies foods.
- New Addition.
-Approved.
22. City Council has in depth discussion about drilling for a new well.
23. Nuisance abatements discussed
- House with overgrown yard
- Property with three liens on the way to court to have them released.
- Property getting new roof, doors.
24. Approval of permit for Beer Bash Ride discussed, open meetings law reviewed.
- Not approved due to not being on agenda.
- Vote rescheduled.
25. Tractor accident discussed.
26. 15 year old hired, fired. Offer extended to another young gentleman.
- You are not allowed to ask age during the interview.
27. Citizen talks about possible nuisance property he owns.
